hey, you're cute.

let's dance.

missxtle asked: When did you start working with chalk as a medium, and how does it compare to other mediums you've used in the past? What are the challenges you face when working on a board with chalk versus using pen & ink, charcoal, acrylic, etc.?

I only started working with chalk about a month or so ago (this is only the 2nd piece I’ve created in chalk after building my chalkboard). I came across the idea after taking a liking to the different menus/signs I saw posted in various coffee shops.

I have to say chalk took a bit of getting used to as I’m definitely more of a perfectionist with my work and prefer the clean, definite lines ink and pencil give me. I haven’t used charcoal very much in the past, but I would assume chalk is very similar as it’s a very soft medium; giving the piece a completely different effect.

The only real struggle I had was getting used to how giving chalk is and how it doesn’t give you those definite lines I was so used to. Up close it’s not perfect; there may be a slight haze left over from some excess chalk residue or the outline of some old verbiage from a previous sign, but I think thats what makes it look so interesting.
